Electric cars, hybrids, batteries: new developments seem to appear on a daily basis. But how come that you or me do not drive electric yet? What are the barriers to literally roll out large amounts of electric vehicles onto Finnish roads?
Aalto University researchers have a first clue: it’s the business. Or more precisely, to accelerate the introduction of sustainable electric mobility in Finland, one should look for the possible business opportunities and related value networks. Certainly there will be new, partially disruptive business opportunities built on electric energy sales and purchase, provision of vehicles and mobility services, as well as infrastructure. Teaming up with the city of Helsinki and companies such as Helsingin Energia, S Group, Nokia Siemens Networks as well as the Finnish Parking Association, European Batteries Oy and various e-car service providers, are four Aalto University departments. SIMBe started in January 2010 with a broad stakeholder value analysis, involving industry, public authorities and end users.
